Cork is Making a Comeback!

And no I am not just talking about the benefits of drinking a glass of red wine a night  :)

One of the most sustainable, eclectic and functional design trends of 2017 will be good old cork.

That’s right, no longer just a 1970’s element, cork circa 2017 represents a cultural shift towards the sustainable, textural and the beautiful.

Reminiscent of still life  art from Holland and Germany in the early 1600’s, there is a surge of new still life floral wallpaper taking center stage in 2017 echoing the moody baroque vibes of the old world.

These florals don’t hold back- they are modern and cool and edgy. They are romantic and rock n’ roll at the same time. Florals, typically a feminine pattern are transformed into more androgynous looks with the darker palette.

This year at Paris Fashion Week 2016 designers showcased a much more muted palette. Rich mossy greens and pops of bright yellow intermixed with warm taupe nude tones were seen across multiple design houses. Pantone has released the 2017 color palette of the year, however has not released the official color- although Vogue has their own predictions- and it’s all about Kale.

 2016’s Pantone Color(s) of the year Rose Quartz and Serenity.

You can see how this palette showed up in a lot of ways in the interior design world.
